(9/29/09) Position at Burlington Preschool

I am writing on behalf of The Nurturing Nest, a small preschool in
Burlington, MA. Due to surgical/medical leave for our current
director/lead teacher, we have an urgent need for an interim EEC
Certified Preschool Director/Lead Teacher. This position will begin
the middle of October and last an expected 3-4 months.

We would like to immediately use your network of alumni and students
to find qualified candidates.

. We are a small school with a total enrollment of 45 students who
meet in 3 different classes, either AM or PM. There are classes every
morning Mon -Fri, and Tues & Thus afternoons. The job would entail
approximately 28-30 hours of on-site work per week. This person would
work with 2 assistant teachers to conduct the classes and he/she would
also handle most of the administrative tasks during the time period.
There is a secretary on site four mornings/week who helps with
newsletters, contact with parents, etc.

The Child Witness to Violence Project at Boston Medical Center has an
opening for a full-time early childhood clinician/consultant who will
provide direct services to children and families with an emphasis on
building capacity in the community of Mattapan to identify and support
very young children who are affected by violence in their homes and
communities. This person will provide clinical assessment and treatment
to young children affected by domestic violence, community violence or
other trauma, and consultation to early childcare settings in the
community. We hope to hire a clinician who is bicultural and/or

Qualifications: Degree in Child Development or a related field
preferred. Experience with children who have a wide range of
individual differences, including special rights; skill in working
with children with diverse learning needs, designing classroom
curriculum, team teaching, working with families and knowledge of
principles of behavior management is desirable.

Supervision: The Special Rights Coordinator supervises Instructional
Assistants. The Head Teacher provides support on a daily basis.

Timelines: For September 2009 – June 2010 there is one full-time
position for 35 hours/week or two part-time positions for 15-20 hours/
week in the first/second grade classroom. This position follows the
Children's School calendar. This is a non-benefited position.

Connected Beginnings Training Institute - Research/Evaluation Assistant

Position Overview:
The Research/Evaluation Assistant works with the Connected Beginnings'
Director of Research and Evaluation, Professional Development

Post-doctoral Position in Cognitive/Social Neuroscience

The Cognition, Affect, and Temperament Lab (http://mason.gmu.edu/~kperezed/ ) is seeking applications for a post-doctoral fellowship.  
The selected fellow will be part of an NIH-funded study of the developmental consequences of early temperament.  As part of this two-decade longitudinal study, the post-doctoral fellow will oversee an extensive fMRI study of the neural correlates of attention and reward processing in young adults with a childhood history of extreme temperament.  

Fellows will participate in an active laboratory, contributing to study design, data collection, data analysis, training and supervision of research assistants, co-authoring publications, and the dissemination of findings.  This work will be done in collaboration with the research team at the University of Maryland and the NIMH.

Interested candidates should have a PhD in psychology or neuroscience and advanced expertise in one, preferably more, of the following:
1) fMRI methods
2) Task design and programming
3) Cognitive or social neuroscience
4) Developmental/temperament research

Additional skills required include competence in planning and multitasking, attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, the ability to communicate verbally and in writing, and a willingness to adapt to the changing demands of a dynamic research environment.

The position begins Fall 2009 and is a two-year appointment.

II. JOB OVERVIEW
This position is responsible for the overall program administration of
the Clinical Research Training Program (CRTP), an NIMH funded Post-
Doctoral program, as well as providing academic and administrative
support to the Director of the CRTP and Academic Teaching Conference.

III. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Comprehensive, accurate and timely administrative support for the
Director of the Program including: typing, filing, faxing, scheduling
appointments and organizing travel arrangements, transcribing and
editing of manuscripts, grant proposal reviews and other reviews,
letters, and recommendations.
• Manage the recruiting process for applicants for fellowships,
including but not limited to keeping application information updated,
placing advertising and identifying new advertising resources while
working within the guidelines established by JBCC HR Department.
• Manage, organize and administer the selection process for fellows to
ensure compliance with all mandated regulations.
• Prepare all paperwork for the project in an accurate and timely
manner including National Institutes of Health (NIH) forms, Harvard
Medical School appointments, stipend administration, mailings,
insurance forms and any other documents that may be necessary for the
efficient operation of the project.
• Prepare, administer and manage a balanced budget based on the NIH
budget awarded.
• Prepare annual non-competing progress reports and competing renewal
grant requests for NIMH as requested and necessary by the deadlines
dictated.
• Arrange room, refreshments, audio-visual, etc for weekly seminars
and make any special arrangements necessary for outside speakers.
• Assist Fellows with appropriate requests.
• Serve as contact person for the Clinical Research Training Program
for applicants and faculty mentors.
• Display the ability to be conversant with federal guidelines and
requirements for the management of the program. Ensure the program
remains in compliance with federal regulations at all times.
• Assist in preparation of new and competing research grant proposals
as necessary and/or requested.
• Regularly contribute to research efforts, through performing
literature reviews (at least 6 per year) and aiding in preparation of
manuscripts.

Candidate must be self-directed, and enjoy working with people. Must
be able to manage details of the CRTP and related research programs,
as well as have an eagerness to take on new tasks as they arise.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office is a must. Excellent verbal, written,
and typing skills needed. Familiarity with grants and the grant
process is a plus. Bachelor's Degree required.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Early Childhood Mental Health Services and
Policy

The University of Washington's School of Nursing and Department of
Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences are accepting applications now for
positions starting in the Summer or Fall 2009 for a one year Post-
Doctoral Fellowship position that trains advanced clinical
practitioners (psychologists, nurses, or other licensable practice
discipline) for leadership roles in early childhood mental health
services and policy research. The fellow recruited for the Early
Childhood Mental Health Services and Policy Research position will
have a strong interest in promoting an early childhood mental health
system of care that fosters the social and emotional well-being of
infants, toddlers and preschoolers and their families across the
spectrum of promotion, prevention, and intervention services that are
empirically-based, child and family centered, relationship-based,
culturally competent, infused into natural settings and services, and
grounded in developmental knowledge. The position will focus on
research and policy related to evidence-based practice and effective
methods of dissemination and implementation of evidence-based
practices in community settings. The fellowship offers clinical
training in 1 or 2 early childhood mental health evidence based
practices and opportunities to participate in a wide range of clinical
and systems outcome research. The position will include didactic
work, participation in ongoing funded projects, approximately a day a
week of clinical training in a relevant evidence-based early childhood
mental health treatment or consultation setting, and independent
research. The recruited fellow will be an integral part of the
University of Washington School of Nursing's Center on Infant Mental
Health and Development CIMHD ( http://www.cimhd.org/ ), and the
University of Washington's Evidence-Based Practices Institute (EBPI;
see website at http://depts.washington.edu/ebpi/) a community-academic
team that supports training, service delivery, policy work, and
research on behalf of improving the children's mental health system in
the state, and the which focuses on these activities specifically for
children birth to 5 and their families.

Developmental Postdoc in Jerusalem
 
A postdoctoral fellowship is available at the Social Development Lab in the Department of Psychology, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, working in the research group led by Dr. Ariel Knafo.
 
Our longitudinal project focuses on gene-environment correlations from infancy to middle childhood. We study the roles of parenting and children's genetics in the development of prosocial behavior, empathy, theory of mind, and psychological problems.
 
Interested candidates should have a PhD in psychology or neuroscience and advanced knowledge in one, preferably more, of the following:
 
  1. Family processes/ parenting research
  2. Behavior genetics
  3. Personality/temperament development
  4. Developmental neuroscience
  5. Developmental psychopathology
 
As the research is conducted in Jerusalem, knowledge of Hebrew is a plus, but not a prerequisite.
 
Strong statistical skills and knowledge of longitudinal and family research methods are desirable
 
The successful applicant will be involved in designing research on gene-environment correlations and in writing up research articles using data from the ongoing Longitudinal Israeli Study of Twins (LIST). This will include serving as lead author on independent projects and collaborative manuscript preparation.

Research on Attitudes towards Residential Care for Children in Cambodia
(Sixty Day Consultancy)

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is seeking to hire
qualified consultant to coordinate a research team conducting field
research on Attitudes towards Residential Care, to develop a final
research report on the topic, make recommendations for the development
and design of an advocacy campaign and develop simple advocacy tools.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

1- Collect and review relevant background literature and summarize the
main international findings regarding the impact of institutional care
on children and advocacy for community based alternative care.
2- Analyse existing data on children in residential care to identify
trends and priority issues.
3- Design and conduct participatory research and analyze the findings
in a draft report.
4- Facilitate a workshop with research team and other key stakeholders
to review and refine the draft findings and recommendations.
5- Prepare final report and simple fact sheets containing synthesized
information for advocacy purposes.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

• Advanced university degree in communications, marketing, social
sciences, political science, or equivalent area.
• Minimum 5 years working experience in areas related to child rights
or child protection.
• Experience of leading social science research in a working
environment.
• Experience of work involving orphans, abandoned and other vulnerable
children and their families is an asset.

Skills/Competencies

• Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a
multi-cultural context.
• Leadership, facilitation and organisational abilities.
• Demonstrable competence in communication and information sharing
including writing skills.
• Flexible and diligent.
• Fluency in English (written and spoken); Knowledge of Khmer language
is an asset.

We are in the early stages of developing a new research project looking at recent data on gender and academic achievement and performance. We are looking to hire a post-doc who would be interested in helping take the lead in examining some of the new data on changes in the 'gender achievement gap' and in examining same-sex education. This person would be part of a large team of researchers examining gender relationships and development. We are interesting in someone joining our team this year -- perhaps Jan 2010. An interest and background in this area is preferred and this person should have strong quantitative and research skills and be able to work independently. This could lead to a long-term position over time.
