Announcement of Postdoctoral Fellowships
The Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute at the University
of North Carolina-Chapel Hill invites applications for postdoctoral
research training fellowships in education sciences. These positions
are funded by the Institute of Education Sciences, U.S. Department of
Education. Advanced training is provided in educational research
methods for studying young children. The training program uses an
apprenticeship model that includes an experienced mentorship team for
each fellow and active engagement in all stages of research across
multiple projects. Fellows participate in an array of research
activities at FPG and in other UNC departments, including specifically
planned research colloquia and interdisciplinary seminars. The program
is designed to promote the professional development of research
scientists who will significantly contribute to early childhood
education and related fields.
The training program will support two fellows for two years each,
beginning in the summer or fall of 2008. Fellowship candidates are
expected to have a demonstrated commitment to the interdisciplinary
study of early childhood education and must have completed a terminal
degree in their field (e.g., PhD, MD, DrPH, EdD) by the time of their
appointment.
Training faculty include Donna Bryant, Margaret R. Burchinal, Virginia
Buysse, Dina C. Castro, Sam Odom, Ellen Peisner-Feinberg, Lynne Vernon-
Feagans, and Noreen Yazejian. Contacts for these individuals and more
information about their work can be found at FPG's web page:

www.fpg.unc.edu

. A brief research plan (2-5 pages) is required as part of the
application (see below). Prior to preparing the research plan,
applicants should contact one or more prospective training faculty
and, with input from them, briefly outline a program of training and
research that links the applicant's prior experiences and future goals
and builds on the ongoing work of the training faculty.

(12/12/07) Psychology Post Docs Needed

We are looking for psychology post docs (2 year program) for our newly
funded Leadership in Adolescent Health Training Program at Hopkins.
This is an interdisciplinary program focused on training leaders in
five different disciplines to become leaders in research on
adolescence -- we've got a great team of folks to work with.

The psychology position is open to recent PhDs in developmental,
social, clinical and health psychology. We are especially interested
in applicants with interests in contextual impacts on the well being
of racial and ethnic minority adolescents living in low-income urban
neighborhoods. Advertisements are posted on SRA and SRCD websites.
Thanks so much, Tama.

Stipend: $55,000

The Education Research Collaborative (ERC) at TERC, a not-for-profit
research and development institution in Cambridge, MA, invites
applications for a two-year residential research fellowship. The
fellowship program is focused broadly on transformative research on
academic literacies in formal and informal educational settings that

particular focus on the sciences, mathematics and interdisciplinary
learning (e.g., sciences, mathematics, humanities, arts). In
particular, we encourage applications from recent PhD.s or Ed.D.s who
are members of groups historically underrepresented in the sciences
and mathematics, and whose research connects theory and practice. A
major component of this fellowship is to foster a scholarly learning
community, which includes a mentoring relationship with ERC senior
staff, collaboration with ongoing ERC projects, and a research/writing
seminar.

The Program

Up to three fellows will be chosen for residence during 2008-2010.
Fellows will work with a mentor from ERC senior staff. They will also

share their emerging work with the broader ERC and TERC community.

to cover travel, participation in professional conferences, and
research related expenses.

4) a self-assessment of the applicant??s current research competencies
and areas where growth is sought; 5) a CV; 6) two letters of
reference; and 7) two examples of the applicant's academic writing.

Subject: [Fwd: Could you help distribute the ad for a postdoc person for
me?]

Dear Jackie,

Happy holidays! I hope that this email finds you well.

I am writing to ask if you could distribute this add to your graduate
students. I got another grant from Spencer ($583,000 direct). This is a
continuation of my ongoing project that was funded by the Foundation for
Child Development. So I will be following 300 Chinese immigrant
middle-class, low-income, and European American preschool kids,
respectively for 3 years on how they develop learning beliefs.

I am hoping to hire a postdoc to manage the project. I have an ad
already at SRCD's website. But I hope to reach many interested people.
It's a 3-year commitment. But there will be a lot of learning how to run
a longitudinal project and publication. Chinese language skill is a plus
but not required because. I have plenty of RAs who are native Chinese
speakers. This position does require good skills in HLM and SEM.

So I would greatly appreciate it if you could help distribute this ad to
the students who are graduating and encourage them to apply.

Thank you so much,

Jin
