Research Associate Position Opening

The Boston Municipal Research Bureau is seeking qualified candidates for the
position of Research Associate to be engaged in objective research involving
a broad agenda of financial and public policy issues important to the
long-term interests of the City of Boston. The Research Bureau is a local
leader, nationally recognized for being a constructive force for good
government and effective city management.

The Bureau
■ Is an independent nonprofit organization that brings an unbiased
analytical perspective to the finances and public policy choices made in
Boston.
■ Promotes a healthy business and residential climate in Boston by
advocating for stability and predictability in the basics of city government
- tax policies, service delivery, development and public education.
■ Influences public policy decisions through its credibility as a
trusted nonpartisan voice among decision makers and opinion leaders.
■ Operates with an expert staff and a Board of Directors consisting of
over 60 of Boston's prominent business and civic leaders. Is a nonprofit
501(c)3 organization.

The Research Associate Position
■ Responsible for coordination, planning, research and writing of
reports on a variety of municipal topics. Focus on budget, education and
personnel matters is expected.
■ Maintain relationships with municipal and state officials, public
authorities, civic organizations, the academic community and other
interested parties. Maintain relationships with the Bureau's Board of
Directors.
■ Monitor City Council, School Committee and legislative meetings and
hearings.
■ Research and write articles for the Bureau's monthly newsletter.
■ Perform project related and internal Bureau administrative
activities.

Qualifications
Candidates should have relevant experience using data, research and
analysis; strong skills in writing and critical thinking and a serious
interest in policy development. Graduation from an accredited college or
university in public administration, political science, business
administration or a related field is required. Experience working with
local government or a Master's degree preferred. Computers: MS Office
platform.

Salary range $40,000 - $60,000 depending on qualifications, three weeks'
vacation, health and dental benefits and pension plan.
