INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE
JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities:
Create a supportive and ongoing relationship with a child with special
rights. Adapt curriculum that is developmentally sound and multiculturally
relevant to meet the child's needs. Facilitate the child's integration into
the classroom with the expectation that you work with the whole group as
well as take on small group responsibilities as the year goes on in order to
support the child's independence. Assist the Head Teacher in communications
between the family and the school. Collaborate with therapists and team to
develop educational and developmental goals and behavior management
strategies. Assist the classroom teacher in planning and executing an
optimal educational program and physical environment. Carry out goals
according to the IEP. Participate in writing progress notes. Participate in
IEP meetings when possible. Schedule weekly supervision meetings.

Qualifications: Degree in Child Development or a related field preferred
but not required. Experience with children who have a wide range of
individual differences, including special rights; skill in working with
children with diverse learning needs, designing classroom curriculum, team
teaching, working with families and knowledge of principles of behavior
management is desirable.

Supervision: The Special Rights Coordinator supervises Instructional
Assistants. The Head Teacher provides support on a daily basis.

Timelines: For September 2008 there are three part-time positions, each
about 20 hours/week. One position is in the preschool and two are in the
first/second grade classroom. These positions follow the Children's School
calendar.


The Eliot-Pearson Children's School is the laboratory-demonstration school
affiliated with the Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Development at Tufts
University. The school enrolls approximately 80 children, ages 3-8.
