Overview of the Scholars Program: The Citizenship and Public Service
Scholars program is a leadership development program that works with a
select group of Tufts' sophomores, juniors and seniors to develop the
skills, knowledge, and values that allow them to have an impact within Tufts
surrounding communities while serving as leaders for elevating active
citizenship at Tufts. Through individual and group projects, Scholars work
with community members and organizations to create positive change and build
capacity in Tufts' host communities, as well as throughout the world.
Scholars also serve as catalysts for the general student population,
inspiring and engaging peers and faculty in the ideas and activities of
active citizenship.
Position Overview:
Graduate Student Advisor (Advisors) will primarily work with undergraduate
student leaders (Scholars) in the Citizenship and Public Service Scholars
program. Advisors will be assigned approximately eight Scholars working on
different community-based projects designed to implement positive social
change that meets a community identified need.
Specific responsibilities of the advisor position include: Advise the
Scholars on project progression, process and outcomes. Provide support to
the Scholars, their project work and the program. Meet monthly to advise
individual Scholars, attend meetings and update regularly other Advisors and
Tisch College staff. Serve as a resource to and maintain contact with your
Scholars' community based supervisor.
Job Requirements:
Advisors will exhibit exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
Must be organized and detail oriented and work with minimal supervision.
Have the ability to be flexible. Familiarity with Tufts' host communities a
plus (Somerville, Medford, Chinatown and Mystic Watershed). Exhibit
experience working with diverse communities and to be passionate about
encouraging students to develop their potential as active citizens for a
life time.
Supervision: Advisors will report to the Scholars Program Coordinator.
Time commitment: 10 hours per week during the academic calendar year,
September-May. Hours are flexible; plus paid training on (Saturday,
September 13th, 2008).
Salary: $12.00/hour
