This unique teaching experience would complement Child Development
coursework beautifully, particularly for those who are interested in
Inclusion, Special Education, and Teaching. The position will provide
experience working closely with an amazing child, his teachers at Tufts
Educational Day Care Center, his teachers at the Atrium School, his family,
and therapists. It will also provide the opportunity to work closely with
staff members from TEDCC and The Atrium School on curriculum development,
differentiated curriculum, and curriculum implementation, as well as
augmentative communication.
Who: Warm, kind, and passionate teacher or student (enrolled in child
development, education, psychology, human and therapeutic services programs)
with enthusiasm about special education and commitment to inclusion.
Willingness to receive additional training and work as part of a team are
some of the key qualities being sought.
What: Provide one-to-one in-classroom service for an 8 year-old boy every
weekday during school hours. The child, who is very affectionate and smart,
communicates using a combination of means, including ASL and a hand-held
communicative device.
Where: In the school he now attends (TEDCC in Somerville) and the one he
will be going to next year (The Atrium School in Watertown).
When: Starting as soon as possible and conditioned on a number of factors to
be explained to those interested in the job. The service provider would be
expected to work on Victor's goals as stated in the IEP and as suggested by
the family, teachers, and therapists. These goals are currently being
worked on at TEDCC and will continue at The Atrium School where he will
transition to over the next few months. This position would be for the
entirety of the 2008-2009 school year. Depending on a number of factors,
service could be extended indefinitely after the first year.
Compensation: Competitive compensation commensurate with background.
