Job Description
Connected Beginnings Training Institute - Research/Evaluation Assistant

Position Overview:
The Research/Evaluation Assistant works with the Connected Beginnings'
Director of Research and Evaluation, Professional Development
Specialist, Graduate Fellow(s), and intern(s) to plan and implement
evaluations of key training and professional development activities
that focus on building workforce capacity in infant and early
childhood mental health.

This part-time contract position is available starting in July, 2009.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Assist in the design of evaluation measures, protocols, study
procedures, and data collection methods.
2. Participate in data collection efforts including surveys,
interviews, and focus groups.
3. Handle and protect confidential and sensitive data.
4. Enter and clean quantitative and qualitative data.
5. Code and analyze quantitative and qualitative data.
6. Assist in writing and preparing evaluation reports.
7. Conduct background research including literature reviews for
evaluation reports, grants, presentations, and the Connected
Beginnings newsletter and website.

Qualifications:

Required Skills and Abilities:
• Current masters student (or advanced undergraduate student) in
Child Development, Human Development, Human Services, Early Childhood
Education, or related field.
• Comfort and/or experience working with individuals and groups
from diverse backgrounds, disciplines, and communities.
• Proficient in attention to detail.
• Ability to effectively contribute within a team setting.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and time-
management skills.
• Familiarity with computers and standard office programs such as
Word, Excel, Power Point, and general Internet and electronic
communications.
• Capacity and willingness to learn new software, research methods,
and work routines quickly, under the mentorship of Director of
Research and Evaluation and other Connected Beginnings staff.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Spanish language proficiency.
• Coursework and/or experience in social sciences evaluation
procedures.
• Experience with qualitative and quantitative data analysis and
software, including Atlas.ti and SPSS.

Compensation:

• $15-$20/hour depending on prior experience and education. Course
credit for Eliot-Pearson students may be available in lieu of
compensation.
• 10-20 hours/week. Hours and duration of contract are flexible.
